Subject: The last of its kind...
Subject: The last of its kind...
Took me a looooong time to write this and I can't believe I neglected to find this absolutely face meltingly superior source...
I saw this as a 22(?) year old who never saw Jerry but was blessed beyond words to have Phillip Lesh carry on the tradition of early Grateful Dead at such a high level for so many years (including this summer at 82 years
old!).
This was billed as a Late Night Psychedelic Set with Phil and Trey. It started at 2am after the clocks turned back and finished at dawn. I have to assume a few band members consumed psychedelics like the majority of the audience did. I'm not going to try to describe what kind of music got dropped on us lucky souls that were beyond blessed to attend but it is not standard fare PLF, even with the addition of Trey. Listen for tne numerous teases of Anthem era GD.
Phil had announced he had to take a break from touring due to a cancer diagnosis right before. The band at times seemed to be playing for his and possibly their own lives. There is psychedelic improv that neither the GD nor the PLQ/Phish or any other post 95 lineup ever got close to. A modern day acid test for attendees, Abbey Rd serving as pre-setbreak-post show music. I'll never forget people continually dancing to it after Set 1 ended.
That's all. This was an event that won't be repeated and was sacred for so many reasons.
Long Live Lesh and thank you so much to the rest of the band for creating this alien soundtrack. May be my favorite concert experience of all time. LOVE TO ALL!

Subject: Hey Clark,
Subject: Hey Clark,
I think this is a better recording than the ones of just Set 1 and Set 2 even though they have many more downloads. The Set 2 recording also has the complication the the second Dark Star of the set is labeled Dick's Picks (somehow, it took me a while to figure it out) and the sequence is out of order as a result on the MP3 format. I know different systems sound different, but this one sounds the best on mine.
And a Great show t'boot! The first set said, "How does it get any better?" The second set said, "Like this!" Nothin' but the Jam. Truely a five-star show.
